When you push the lever forward the carrier rises with the cartridge, aiming the nose for the chamber mouth. The condition you describe sounds like the ammo may be just a tad too long. Has anyone else out there had issues with this ammo in particular (Buffalo bore's 335 grain hard cast) or any other factory 444 ammo out there? Does anyone have any suggestions on what may be causing the problem? If the problem is the rifle itself, can anyone suggest a gunsmith who could slick this action up enough to get factory ammo other than Remington or Hornady to cycle without problems? on their cartridges are well below the SAMI spec 2.570 as well. I have contacted all of the previously mentioned ammo makers and all have informed me that the C.O.L. should be very consistent and well below the SAMI spec 2.570 (I believe that it this round measures 2.550 C.O.L.).

I was also informed that they have very strict standard to which their ammo is produced so that their cartridge C.O.L. I contacted Buffalo Bore and was advised that the ammo has been tested in both Marlin and Winchester rifles without any problems. This is all well and good except the actual purpose for a lever action is speed and rapid reloading.

(Did I mention that the brass gets ate up?) If I creep the lever back and forth very slowly, the ammo cycles without any issues whatsoever. This is what happens every time I work the lever with any speed or velocity. Once jammed up, if I wiggle the lever back and forth the round will right itself allowing the action to lock up. When I bring the lever back, the round gets jammed up and will not allow the action to close. When I bring the action forward, the round is taken from the tube and falls effortlessly onto the lift or tray if you will. I ended up choosing Buffalo bore's renowned 335 grain hard cast load except I have a problem, it won't cycle in my rifle. Since I don't re-load my choices are really quite plentiful with offerings from ammo makes such as Cor-Bon, Grizzly, and of course Buffalo Bore. With this change in targeted game, has also come the necessity to use more potent and heavier ammo. I have recently began to up the ante by hunting larger game such as wild hog and black bear. I do not re-load and have found plenty of success with the standard Remington and Hornady factory loads wile hunting small and medium game.
